One of the joys of life in Caussi in shopping in local village markets each day. With the freshest produce and great oysters from the Intermarche, we often dine in splendor on the terrace.
The most authentic, agricultural market is arguably Bedarieux. And the Saturday market in Pezenas (see photo) is totally charming, filled with handicrafts and in a spot surrounded by excellent spots for lunch, Medieval architecture, and antique shops.
Market day in the villages around Caussi are listed below (and every day is market day in Les Halles in Beziers, open until early afternoon):
Monday: Bedarieux (don't miss), Valras Plage
Tuesday: Roquebrun, Olanzac, Lamalou les Bains
Wednesday: Magalas (near by)
Thursday: Laurens (next village), St. Chinian (a bit of a hike but great wine area)
Friday: Autignac,Roquebrun, Beziers flower market
Saturday: Pezenas (don't miss)
Saturday and Sunday in the summer: Marseillan Place (Huge open air flea market)
Sunday: Capestang (on the Canal du Midi)
Here's what one of Caussi's visitors reported:
“The Monday market in Bedarieux was excellent. So was the little butcher shop/traiteur on the main streets in Bedarieux--we got some excellent sheep cheese, sausage, locally grown Charolais beef, and lovely eggs from Madame's little poules. Also wonderful were the nut tarts we got from Sylvain Ricot's truck in Villemagne (one day we went to Bousquet sur Orb, where the Ricot patisserie is located to get some more for an airplane picnic). “
